RISHIKESH, INDIA GALLERY
Summer, 2007
LIVE. LOVE. BE. DO. SING. TRAVEL. CREATE. WRITE. FLOW. RECEIVE. GIVE. THANK. INSPIRE. SIT. LEAP. MOVE. GROW. LISTEN. SHARE. LOOK. SEE. ENCOURAGE. ENDEAVOR. THRIVE. SHINE. SPIRIT. GO.
Nestled in the Himalayan foothills north of Delhi, Rishikesh is one of the more serene towns in India.  During the summer of 2007, I
was blessed with the time and money to spend three months living here, photographing, wandering, and working on my various
creative projects.

It was my second extended stay in this beautiful, out-of-the world place, and it will not be my last.

Famous for yoga classes, ashrams and being the town where the Beatles came in the 60s, Rishikesh is situated on the Ganges, at a
point where the river is fast-moving and close to its source.  It's a popular place for Indian pilgrims, Western backpackers, white water
river rafters, and yogis alike.

Within a half hour walk from any part of town, it's actually possible to find one self
alone in the forest--a true feat in any popular place
along the Indian tourist trail.

Like much of this populous nation, Rishikesh abounds with children.  Unlike anywhere I've been, the future generations of India seem
to be obsessed with having themselves photographed.

If you walk down the street with a camera, it's not uncommon to be stopped by kids who want their photo taken.  In return, all they ask is
to see the result.  One peek at your LCD seems to satisfy like Christmas.

This is one of the things I love about India--you rarely have to
ask to take a photograph.  The people do the asking for you.  As a result,  I
feel a lot less intrusive photographing people in general, and the results seem more natural than in any other country I've traveled in.
It's a different kind of photography in the sub-continent.

Rishikesh was certainly no exception.  It has become another one of my favorite places in the world.

Note:  For more of this town, see the Wildlife of Rishikesh Gallery and the North India Gallery.
